Hello, everyone! Well, my episode of Hoarders finally aired on A&E last night! It was an overwhelming but great professional experience for me. The client, Eileen, is a hoarder with 6 children, 4 of which currently live in her home. Her husband is a firefighter but is emotionally checked out and doesn’t defend his children from Eileen’s hoarding. He also provides her with the money to do all of this excessive shopping.
Over a 2 day period I got to know Eileen, her husband, and their sons. Dorothy Breinenger is the lead organizer on this case. I helped her lead the team behind the scenes. While Eileen is a lot to swallow and is easy to dislike, I ask you to remember that hoarding is a manifestation of a serious mental illness, which quite frankly, Eileen has not even been diagnosed with at this point. So, while we can all speculate as to what her problems may be, we don’t really know at this point.
I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with. Everyone worked hard, got along, and was rooting for Eileen throughout the project. I truly wish Eileen and her family the best.
